A Few Facts About Denton
Denton is located on the north side of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Dallas is 37 miles to the southeast via I-35E and Fort Worth is 35 miles to the southwest via I-35W. This area is traditionally referred to as the Golden Triangle; the largest shopping mall in Denton shares this name. Denton was founded in 1857, and is the county seat of Denton County. The four-story limestone County Courthouse with magnificent clock tower built in 1896 proudly stands as the stately centerpiece of the city, and houses the Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum. A variety of antique shops, restaurants, and specialty stores line the City Square. Denton also has a wonderful Central Library with North and South Branches.

Denton Independent School District (DISD) includes about 180 square miles. Currently the DISD has 3 comprehensive high schools, 5 middle schools, 18 elementary schools, an advanced technology complex, an early childhood center, alternative high school and other specialized schools and centers.
The district prides itself on being a “student centered” public school system because they keep schools smaller in order to provide strong individualized instruction. There are also several fine private schools in the area.

Cultural attractions center around Denton’s Arts Complex and two major universities, Texas Woman’s University, the nation’s largest university primarily for women and the University of North Texas, the third largest university in Texas and hometown of Grammy Award winning band Brave Combo and the Grammy Award winning 1 O’Clock Lab band. Famous UNT alumni — Roy Orbison, Don Henley, and Pat Boone — called Denton home.
